Michael Bravery Practice PrincipalI studied architecture at Canterbury School of Architecture (now the 'University of the Creative Arts') and during this time I also travelled in Australia and worked for Robin Gibson Associates on the Brisbane Art Gallery, Opera House and Cultural Centre.
Following professional qualification in 1987 I worked for several years in London and in Jersey for Nigel Biggar & Partners, gaining experience on various large projects such as St. Ewolds Residential Home. A desire for more personal control over my work led me to set up my own practice in 1994. Over the last 24 years my practice has completed a wide variety of work, including domestic, health, educational and social housing, a selection of which is showcased here. Whilst I love modern design, and the creative freedom it allows, I am not a style dictator! I try to approach all projects with a completely open mind as each presents its own unique challenges and opportunities. I also particularly appreciate and value Jersey's unique historical built heritage and many of our projects have involved working with with old buildings, including conserving, restoring, enlarging and adapting them to suit new uses. I see my role as a 'design facilitator' - analysing and resolving all of the complex, sometimes contradictory, influencing factors surrounding a project (Eg.: the site, context, practical requirements, desires and preferences of our clients) to arrive at an intelligent, well-balanced and, above all, beautiful solution. |
Alan Holmes Senior TechnicianAlan grew up in Jersey and first worked with architects Nigel Biggar & Partners before leaving the island to work in the oil and gas industry in Western Australia. After 20 years in Perth he was drawn back to Jersey and joined the practice in 1998, after 7 years with architect David Barlow.
He has stayed with us ever since and is the 'drawing powerhouse' for all of our projects. He has a keen interest in the environment, both built and natural, and enjoys walking, classic motorbikes and travelling to far-flung places. |
